Butterflies and Catepillars - Oh MY!

I was asked by Berkeley Hills Nursery School to create a class quilt to be put in their upcoming auction. The class consists of 21 - 4 and 5 year olds. We were looking to create more of an art quilt than the usual "handprint in a block quilt".

Hmmm ...4 and 5 year olds...coloring book images came to mind!

Here is a sneak peak at the upcoming quilt. More to come each day, until the quilt is complete!

Let's start with butterfly and catepillar images on muslin and backed it with freezer paper for a little stability.

Ask the children to paint their creations with irridescent fabric paints. No need to stay inside the lines, I will just cut out the shapes to use as applique!

Baste them into place...

Don't forget to sign the artists names...

I am all "a flutter" just thinking how fun this will be!
Check in tomorrow for an update!

I love it! So much more fun than the ho-hum handprints. Can't wait to see the next installment.
