Fun and Funky Sampler Quilt

I thought I would share with you the sampler quilt that I will be teaching in a class for older teens. Each block teaches a beginners' technique for quilting, then show how to use that technique for other projects, ala, embellish a tshirt, make a totebag or a pillow for their room! With all of the new fabrics out lately and Project Runway, this seems the perfect time to do a project like this.

OK, here is my motive:
There are so many 15-25 somethings out there that never had the benefit of those "beloved" Home Ec classes that we all cherished so much (hahaha). As much as we hated learning to backstitch and read a pattern, we did LEARN something. We didn't grow up afraid of a sewing machine and not have a clue how to follow a pattern. That is something that this generation has missed out on unless they have an favorite auntie or grammy to teach them. Home Ec class or not, there are always going to be teens out there with that tactile thread running through their viens - just like us. They just don't know what to do with it!! If we all take the time to teach just one young fabric nut how to be creative with this passion - we will be passing on the next generation of quilters!!I will be teaching the class locally after the new year, so contact me if you are interested. I will let you know where and when to sign up!
