Sweet Nothings

I promised to show the second quilt I finished this month. Little different than the first, huh??? I took this fabulous class last summer with Lisa Engelbrecht http://www.lisaengelbrecht.com/ . Lisa is an amazing artist and calligrapher that taught a class perfect for me. We spent the day playing with paints, inks, dyes and other messy, wonderful mediums all put to raw canvas. When we were done, we ripped them into small pieces and put them back together in unusual, but very beautiful collages. I was totally in my element that day!!! What an inspiring class.

It took me 11 months, but I actually pulled the collage out and finished it last week - just in time for the "Small Quilts" Show at the Lakeview Library in Oakland. Now it is hanging proudly alongside the many beautiful quilts submitted by talented EBHQ http://www.ebhq.org/ quilt artists. If you are an East Bayer, it is a must to stop in and check out. Right across from the Lakeshore Farmers Market. What a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Ok, here are a few close-up shots of the piece. Lisa asked us to experiment with writing on canvas. Being a past calligrapher from college, this intrigued me... but I couldn't think of anything to say! So, I simply wrote every "Sweet Nothing" that popped into my head.
